‘Yunnan’, in local dialect means ‘South of the Cloud’. The Yunnan province located in Southern China is renowned for its scenic beauty and tranquil mountainous valleys. The name we chose for this coffee originated from the location of the coffee trees growing south of the Yunling Mountains (known to locals as Cloud Mountain). The rising wave of specialty coffee sweeping China has allowed for locally sourced outstanding coffees to take centre stage and showcase their amazing quality.
Our ‘Yunnan’ coffee is grown south of the Yunling in the rolling hills of Bao Shan and Kunming at an altitude of 1100 - 1400 meters. Pairing organic farming methods and top grade washing and sorting facilities have allowed the farms we source from to perfect their coffee to a high quality. The result of their hard work and dedication to their harvest was evident to us from our first cup. Big citrus notes of mandarin and orange with a lingering jammy aftertaste.
Selected twice to be used as a single origin coffee in the China Barista Championships in 2013 and 2015. The cooperatives working with the farmers concentrate their efforts on water sustainability, organic fertilisers and education on organic farming techniques to ensure continual growth in the quality in coffee produced and life of the community.
